Port Huron, MI. October, 2014—The 2014 Peace Project was first seen as the finale drop for Picasso Becomes You in October of 2013. Pictured below are a few doves that are connected to the flower. Symbolizing the act of bringing peace to the world by plucking the flower out of the bouquet, each dove has the artist’s commitment to bring peace to the world written on back.

The International Peace Project collected about 400 doves from patrons of Art for Good, students connected to the KidSAKE Foundation, including those in Honduras, at the YMCA in Port Huron, Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary school. Cheri Nicholas [pictured below] was the lead teacher at Roosevelt who organized the event at the school.

The entire project was unveiled for LUNAFEST on October 25th at RESA TEC in Marysville, MI.

Completion of the project was made possible by a grant from the James C. Acheson Foundation.

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I  should do. And what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do.”

—Edward Everett Hale

Inspired by Picasso’s participation in the world peace movement using his artwork as his voice and a means to raise funds for war refugees,  Jenny Rogers has incorporated a peace project for each Picasso Project production since 2012, anticipating future peace projects in other communities. Pictured above, Rogers and crew hang the 2012 mural in Grand Rapids for Art Prize.
